SOP — CIP Up-Concentration

FUERST WIACEK Version 1.2 | Utilities — CIP Tank 1 and CIP Tank 2 | Frequency: once per day, before the first CIP that needs it

Purpose

CIP Tank 1 and CIP Tank 2 contain caustic solution (IC 1002) that is reused across multiple CIP cycles. Over time, the caustic concentration drops as water is introduced and organic load builds up. Up-concentration restores the tank to the correct temperature and caustic concentration before a CIP is run.

Tank 1 supplies the brewhouse and wortway CIP. Tank 2 supplies the canning line and cellar lines.

Up-concentration is fully automatic once the swing bend is set and the recipe is launched. The process dumps settled sludge from the tank bottom, refills with fresh water, and doses additional caustic to reach the target concentration. The plate chiller heats the solution to the correct temperature.

PPE Required

Warning

Do not handle chemical connections without safety goggles and chemical-resistant gloves.

Risks

Hazard Risk
Caustic solution Chemical burns, eye damage
Incorrect swing bend position Recipe routes to wrong tank or fails to complete

Equipment

  • Safety goggles and chemical-resistant gloves
  • CIP unit with Tank 1 and/or Tank 2
  • Swing bend on CIP unit set to correct position

Botec Recipes

Task Recipe
Tank 1 only CIP Upconcentrate LGT 1 [1] V 1.00
Tank 2 only CIP Upconcentrate LGT 2 [1] V 1.00
Both tanks Complete CIP Upconcentrate [1] V 1.00

All recipes are found under 010 CIP → CIP Line.

Process

1. Set Swing Bend on CIP Unit

Set the physical swing bend on the CIP unit to the horizontal position. This must also be acknowledged in the Botec CIP unit view before the recipe can launch.

CIP unit panel — swing bend in horizontal position for up-concentration

The panel has two sides: Brewhouse (left) and Cellar & Filling (right). The swing bend connects horizontally across the two lower ports as shown. Valve positions on the panel must match what is shown before acknowledging in Botec.

2. Select and Launch Recipe

  1. Open Botec and navigate to 010 CIP → CIP Line.
  2. Select the appropriate recipe for the tank(s) to be up-concentrated.
  3. Acknowledge the swing bend position in the Botec CIP unit view.
  4. Launch the recipe. The process runs automatically to completion:
    • Sludge settled at the bottom of the tank is dumped automatically
    • Tank is refilled with fresh water
    • Additional IC 1002 caustic is dosed to reach target concentration
    • Plate chiller heats the solution to the correct temperature

Note

No manual intervention is required once the recipe is running. Monitor for any alarms.

3. Confirm Completion

Once the recipe is complete, the tank is ready for use. Proceed with the relevant CIP.

Pre-Run Checklist

  • [ ] PPE on
  • [ ] Swing bend on CIP unit set to horizontal position
  • [ ] Swing bend acknowledged in Botec CIP unit view
  • [ ] Correct recipe selected for tank(s) to be up-concentrated
  • [ ] Recipe launched and running
  • [ ] Completion confirmed before proceeding with CIP

Troubleshooting

Issue Likely Cause Action
Recipe cannot launch Swing bend not acknowledged in Botec Set swing bend to horizontal. Acknowledge in Botec CIP unit view.
Concentration not reaching target after completion IC 1002 drum low or empty Check drum level. Refill if needed and re-run.
Recipe stalls or alarms Various Check Botec alarm log. Do not proceed with CIP until up-concentration is confirmed complete.
